A&S | Maxwell Virtual Sample Class: Neuroscience in Action: Exploring the Brain Through Dissection (7:00 pm)

This class, led by Dr. Lauren Mavica, Associate Teaching Professor of Neuroscience, is tailored for beginners eager to explore the anatomy of the brain. You’ll investigate its structures through a sheep brain dissection demonstration.

The brain is the most complex and fascinating organ in an animal’s body, serving as the source of all actions, emotions, and instincts. Composed of billions of nerve cells that send and receive information, the brain acts as the coordinating center for sensation and action, orchestrating the smooth functioning of all bodily systems and organs.

By following along during a sheep brain dissection, you’ll gain insights into the organization and function of various brain regions, including the cerebral cortex, hippocampus, cerebellum, and brainstem. Additionally, we’ll explore the impact of traumatic brain injury and neurological disorders, and discuss how these conditions disrupt normal brain function and alter behavior.

A&S | Maxwell Virtual Sample Class: Creative Writing 101 (6:00 pm.) Join a virtual creative writing classroom with Syracuse professors Matt Grzecki and Sarah Harwell. This class will use examples from contemporary poets and fiction writers to help inspire and generate new work. You will learn techniques of evocative, compelling writing to discover what you want to say, to surprise yourself and your readers, and to make your readers feel and think a little more deeply. While we imagine some of you have been practicing your creative writing for some time, no past experience with creative writing is necessary - all levels are welcome!
