    AI, Media and the Future of Storytelling (5:00 pm.)

    Join us to learn from Professor Adam Peruta, the Dean's Leadership Fellow at Newhouse with a focus on AI and emerging media, and director of the school's advanced media management master's program. Peruta is a leading voice in helping students navigate AI's impact on media and communications, emphasizing not just tool fluency but strategic, critical thinking that translates across careers.

    This sample session offers a preview of Newhouse's new AI and Emerging Media minor that equips students with practical experience in generative AI tools, emerging platforms and data-informed strategy all grounded in ethics, law and policy. Students will explore how artificial intelligence is reshaping storytelling, content creation and audience engagement across media, strategic communications and entertainment.

    Join the Newhouse School's Professor Michelle Santosuosso, professor in our Bandier Program for the Recording and Entertainment Industries for a virtual classroom experience for prospective students, called: The Business of Music: Fundamentals of How the Music Business Works. This interactive session will break down key industry trends and familiarize you with the business behind your favorite artists. 

    Santosuosso has served as editor of HITS magazine, vice president of music programming at Dash Radio and vice president of artist relations at Napster, and founded D.O.M.E. Entertainment, a marketing company working with music artists and corporate brands.

    Financial Statement Basics - the REAL story with Prof. Maryann Monforte (Whitman Virtual Sample Class) (5:30 pm.)

    In this sample class with Professor of Practice MaryAnn Monforte, you'll learn about accounting essentials and how they shape the world of business. Discover "the language of business" to gain a better understanding of how different accounting practices are utilized. Students are encouraged to have a cell phone available during the class to participate in a Kahoot!

    MaryAnn Pointek Monforte is a driven and accomplished professional with a diverse background in accounting, finance, technology sales and entrepreneurship. She has demonstrated leadership across multiple industries, excelling in academic, corporate, and entrepreneurial environments. She has been a Professor of Accounting Practice at the Whitman School of Management, Syracuse University, since 2007. She designs and teaches undergraduate and graduate courses in financial and intermediate accounting. Her involvement extends to mentoring honors students, judging entrepreneurial competitions and advising professional business fraternities.

    Sample Class: How To Tell Stories With Maps (Virtual) (6:00 pm.)

    Maps and stories go hand-in-hand. Maps are being used now more than ever in news media to visualize important stories of our time like climate change impacts, public health policies, political polarization, racial injustice and social movements, etc. In this sample class, Professor Meghan Kelly will show you some of her favorite maps, ask to see yours, and help you develop a storytelling toolkit that you can use for projects in the future - hopefully, here at Syracuse!
