BAROMETER
The barometric pressure is
a measure of how much force is exerted by the air on the Earth,
or how dense the air is. The barometric pressure is measured
in millimeters of mercury (mm Hg) and changes depending on altitude.
Pressure at sea-level is 760 mm Hg where there is a greater volume
of air over the land. Because we are at an altitude of 2,650
meters above sea level here in Bogotá, the pressure is
around 560 mm Hg. The barometer changes with changes in weather,
but usually within a range of 15 mm Hg. A rising barometer usually
indicates better weather while a falling barometer indicates
foul weather approaching.
