The creation of Colegio Los Nogales
The Educational Project of Colegio Los Nogales beganin 1982 with conversations between parents, educators and friends who were discontent with the educational opportunities available amidst the social and political hardships of that time. In this context, a group of people decided to come together to contribute to a solution by founding a distinctly different co-educational and bilingual school. A common goal was shared by these individuals; to offer children an education promoting the development of all dimensions of the human person, to prepare students to become Colombia’s future leaders and to shape young citizens committed to a better future for their country. This new institution would seek to develop in its students the awareness, responsibility and pride of being Colombian but within a universal context, providing each student the advantages implicit in learning a second language and culture. As a result of this reflection, Corporación Colegio Los Nogales, a private, not-for-profit, educational institution was founded on July 14th, 1982.
Early History and Growth of CLN
 In its first year of operation, Colegio Los Nogales enrolled 147 Pre-school to Second Grade students supported by 26 full time staff members. Classes had a maximum enrollment of 20 students per group with three groups per grade. In 1984 the Secretary of Education of the City (Secretaría de Educación Distrital) approved the Pre-School and in May 1986 the Primary School. By February 1990 the Secretary extended its approval to the Middle School and in 1992 to the High School.
1989 marked the beginning of the construction of the current School premises on a 17.6 acre lot purchased two years before. The first stage of the construction consisted of a building block of classrooms, the gym area, the initial units for administrative offices and the Pre-School. In August 1990, construction was completed and CLN moved to its current location. Colegio Los Nogales was born and has since developed through its own resources, generated entirely by the tuition fees, contributions and voluntary gifts of parents. CLN does not receive donations or subsidies from the State or private corporations. This autonomy has been fundamental in defining CLN's nature, philosophy, and institutional authority. The sole owner of the School is the Corporación Colegio Nogales. |
